Nicolay & Hot At Nights @ Trane tonight

Perhaps best known for his ongoing Foreign Exchange collabo with Little Brother MC Phonte, Dutch producer Nicolay will be making his Toronto live performance debut with the Hot At Nights jazz trio playing two shows at the Trane Studio (964 Bathurst) tonight slated for 7 pm and 9 pm.

Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist Nicolay first threw down with the Raleigh, NC combo – led by 8-string guitar virtuoso Chris Boerner (who plays on Foreign Exchange sessions) with Matt Douglas on sax/woodwinds and Nick Baglio on drums – on the recently released Shibuya Session EP which is essentially a jazz-style overhaul of eight instrumental compositions from Nicolay's 2009 album City Lights Vol. 2: Shibuya. You can check out tracks from the Shibuya Session EP right here.

Tor each of the two shows at Trane Studio, Hot At Nights will open with a short set focusing on the music from their Nice Talk debut album after which they'll be joined by Nicolay on keyboards and synths to explore the Shibuya Session material and perhaps delve into a couple of classics from Nicolay's growing back catalog. Here's what you can expect...
