Midweek Mixdown: Nik Weston

Jazz Meet resident and Mukatsuku Records label boss Nik Weston steps to the turntables this week to deliver a 40-minute jazz mix direct from his extensive record collection. He kicks things of with Dizzy Gillespie's effortlessly funky take on Matrix before unleashing the much loved Psychedelic Sally from Horace Silver and his quintet. Two covers follow with Blue Mitchell taking on The Message while Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers bring their classic version of Bobby Timmons' Dat Dere. There's then Japanese jazz from Norio Maeda & All Stars and Ryusei Tomoyose Quartet, killer funky jazz from Sam Most, a touch of soul from Alice Clark and a second number from Horace Silver, this time it's the title track' of his 1966 album, The Jody Grind. Finally, Nik winds things down with Bajka's modern deep jazz classic A Vision on Jazzman Records. Time to get down...
